Getting to Muck is easier than you might think and you have several options when planning your visit.

​

Both the ports of Arisaig and Mallaig serve the Small Isles and are the closest mainland points from which to set sail.

​

The charming port of Arisaig is slightly closer to Fort William and Arisaig Marine run a scheduled service throughout the summer months and boats can be chartered from them year round.

 

Our main Cal Mac ferry, the Loch Nevis, runs from the port of Mallaig and offers a continual year round service. By car, both Ports can be reached from Fort William in under an hour.

By Road (to Arisaig & Mallaig)

​

If travelling from the south head for Fort William taking either the A82 via Glencoe or the A9 and A86 via Dalwinnie and Spean bridge.

 

From the north take the A82 to Fort William. At Fort William follow the signs for Arisaig and Mallaig. After unloading your luggage near the pier, visitors can leave their vehicles in the car parks provided in both villages.

By Ferry

​

From Arisaig (summer months only), Arisaig Marine operates highly successful wildlife cruises to the Small Isles.

The MV Sheerwater visits Muck four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

From Mallaig, the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry, the Loch Nevis, calls on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in summer, and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Saturdays in winter.

By Yacht

​

Muck offers two safe anchorages:

​

• Gallanach to the north 56° 50.5’ North 06° 15.5’ West To enter the bay line up the green Dutch barn adjacent to the white farm buildings with the dry stone wall leading up to the cliffs on the other side of the island. The holding is good with a sandy bottom. 

•  Port Mor to the south 56° 49.6’ North 06° 13.0’ West

 

Port Mor is much easier to navigate with a clearly buoyed channel perches at the entrance and a Sectored Light. The holding in Port is also good with a sandy bottom.

Port Mor is an enjoyable 20 min walk from Gallanach.

 

 

By Train (to Arisaig & Mallaig)

​

Mallaig and Arisaig are at the northern end of one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys.

​

First ScotRail run several trains a day between Glasgow and Mallaig and many of the services are integrated with the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service.

​

There is also an overnight sleeper service from London to Fort William.

​

By Plane

​

The nearest international airports are Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Inverness.  You would then need to travel to Arisaig or Mallaig by car or train.

​
